Treasure
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21).
I rarely pay much attention to the "Parade" magazine that's in our Sunday newspaper, but every year they do this "What People Earn" article that covers a wide variety of professions and lists what, in general, folks who work in that profession earn. If we believe what Jesus said above, then at least one implication for us as a society is that we "value" people by what we pay them. We put our treasure where our heart is. The jobs/occupations/skills that are most valuable to us are paid more because we "treasure" them more (whether we'd say it that way or not). I think it says a lot about our culture and what's important. No matter what we say, the way we live and the way we act speaks louder than anything else.
So where is our "treasure" as a society? What do we value? And are those values in line with the Kingdom of God?
